Types of dosimeters

Image
DOSIMETER       A radiation dosimeter is a device that measures exposure to ionizing radiation. It has two main uses: for human radiation protection and for measurement of dose in both medical and industrial processes.       Dosimeters are devices used to measure the amount of energy deposited by ionising radiation. This measurement is used to estimate the effective dose received by the human body through exposure to external ionising radiation.      Doses received following internal exposure from incorporation of radioactivity are not assessed by these dosimeters but if necessary determined through other methods. The different types of dosimeters are:             * Film badges             * Thermoluminescent dosimeters             * Electronic dosimeters             * MOSFET dosimeters Film badge dosimeter:...

Antibiotic treatments

Image
Antibiotic treatments Antibiotics are a class of drugs that are used to treat infections caused by bacteria. They work by killing the bacteria or stopping them from growing. Antibiotics are usually given by mouth in the form of pills, capsules, or liquids. Some common antibiotics include amoxicillin, ciprofloxacin, and erythromycin. Antibiotics are typically used only for bacterial infections. They will not work on viral infections, such as the flu, common cold, or bronchitis. What are antibiotics? Antibiotics are medicines that fight infections caused by bacteria. They work by killing the bacteria or stopping them from multiplying. Antibiotics are usually taken by mouth in the form of pills, capsules, or liquids, but some types can be given as an injection. Most antibiotics need to be taken for 7 to 14 days. You should start to feel better a day or two after you start taking them. If you don't feel better after 3 days, call your doctor. Never stop taking an antibiotic early unless...

Latest technology in medical field

Image
Today we live in a world where medical technology and devices have become more advanced than ever before. Here is a list of the top 10 medical technologies in 2022         Healthcare providers now have more options for treating a wide range of illnesses and disorders thanks to emerging technologies. With the use of these technologies, we may detect diseases much sooner, keep a closer eye on our health, and take preventative actions to stay healthy or recover more quickly from injuries. What does medical technology actually mean?        Devices used in healthcare for diagnosis, patient care, treatment, and health improvement fall under the wide category of medical technology. In the healthcare sector, it is used to link patient care with technology. From bandages to MRI scanners, dental floss to CT scanners, catheters to wheelchairs, MedTech has it all. Biotechnology, medicines, in vitro diagnostics (IVD) facilities, and diagnost...

Calipers (FOOT ORTHOSIS)

Image
Calipers are orthosis fitted to the lower limb. They may be                         * Foot Orthosis (FO)                         * Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO)                         * Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis (KAFO)                         * Hip Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis (HKAFO) Considerations while prescribing Calipers        Orthosis need to be prescribed, just like drugs. The specification would include the nature and number of joints, the positioning of the straps suspension and accessory attachments to the shoe or boot        The reason for prescribing it must be explained to the following, before delivering the orthoses.        The stability of the hip and knee should be good before...

CT Scan (Computed tomography)

Image
A computerized tomography (CT) scan combines a series of X-ray images taken  from different angles around your body and uses computer processing to create cross-sectional  images (slices) of the bones, blood vessels and soft tissue inside your body. CT  scan images provide more detailed information than plain X-rays do. Tomography is derived from Greek word “tomos” meaning ‘slice’ and “graphen” meaning ‘to write’.      CT scan is one of the best imaging method for analyzing the chest, brain and abdomen.  It is often used for the diagnosing various cancers like lung, liver and pancreatic cancers.  The image reveals to a physician to confirm the presence of a tumour and to measure its size,  location and the extent of damage for the near by tissue.     It uses special X-ray equipment to obtain a set of image data at different angles  around the human body. The set of data processed in a compute...

Aphasia

What is aphasia?        Aphasia is the inability to understand and produce language. Aphasia can be caused by damage to the brain, including stroke and head injury. It can also be caused by a disease or condition called aphasia, which affects how your brain receives and decodes information so that you can speak and write. Aphasia is a correspondence problem because of mind harm in at least one region of the cerebrum that control language. It can slow down your verbal correspondence (getting words stirred up while expressing), composed correspondence, or both. Aphasia can bring on some issues with your capacity to:                   * Read                   * Write                   * Speak                   * Understand speech                   *...

Heart lung machine

Image
Function      The heart-lung machine (HLM) is a device used to provide blood circulation and oxygenation while the heart is stopped. It is a means of keeping a patient alive while his/her heart is stopped or even removed from the body. Usually called the heart-lung machine, the device also is referred to as cardiopulmonary bypass, indicating its function as a means to substitute for the normal functions of the heart (cardio) and lungs (pulmonary). Need for heart lung machine     During open heart surgery for installation of a valve prosthesis or cortrection of congential mal formation, the heart cannot maintain the circulation. It is necessary to provide extra corporeal circulation with the special machine called heart lung machine. The heart lung machine replaces the function of heart and lungs there by providing the rest of the body with a continuous supply of oxygenated blood. Mechanical functions of the heart         *  The u...

Medical technology

Image
Medical technology is the use of both medical and engineering methods to improve healthcare. Medical technology can be broadly categorized into two types: 1) Medical devices, which are tools that help with diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of health problems 2) Medical procedures, which are operations performed by a doctor or other qualified medical professional.          Medical technology has advanced over the years and has become an integral part of our lives. Doctors are now able to diagnose patients with a high degree of accuracy, and medical students are able to learn about the human body in ways that were not possible before.        Medical technology is not just confined to hospitals, though. There are many different types of medical technologies that can help people live healthier lives. For example, there is a wearable device called Cardio that monitors heart rate and blood pressure for people who want t...
